BdM Development were asked to deliver a learning
management system for a leading Oil Exploration
Company early in 2000. As well as providing an
effective, global LMS, the aim was to enhance
dramatically the focus of learning delivery to
the audience.
The business case was clear:
- Replace disparate systems with a single global
LMS that could cope with such a highly mobile
workforce
- Provide an effective framework for all development
activities
- Optimise the overall focus and effectiveness
of learning delivery to dramatically enhance
the effectiveness of the training budget
This was achieved using a customised version
of Training Wizard's Self Service Training (SST)
on-line module. The solution was based upon a
hierarchy of curricula, that cascaded core learning
requirements from a global curriculum, down through
the company structure. The result was a system
capable of targeting learning needs for each individual
job role down to individual drilling rig level.
Students are able to follow dedicated training
paths for their job function and location and
the system automatically updates these paths in
response to location or role changes. All the
new functionality added by BdM Development fits
seamlessly into the standard SST on-line application
to provide the optimum blend of off-the-shelf
and bespoke functionality for the client.
